Crowd Funding FAQs

For Donors:

1. Does my Carolina Creates Crowd Funding gift count towards the UNC Annual Fund?

Yes, all gifts received count towards the UNC Annual Fund goal. 

2. Is my Carolina Creates Crowd Funding gift tax-deductible?

Yes, all gifts given through the Carolina Creates Crowd Funding platform are considered donations to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and are tax deductible. 

3. What happens if the student organization, which I helped to fund, does not reach its funding goal by its set deadline?

All gifts given to organizations which do not reach their goal by their set deadline are placed into the Carolina Creates Innovation Fund, which allocates grants to innovative UNC student initiatives. It is important to note that the student Crowd Funding organizations which did not receive their goal are considered first in the grant allocation process. All grants allocated from the Carolina Creates Innovation Fund are administered by the Carolina Creates Online Board of Directors, consisting of UNC administrative representatives from Student Affairs,  Legal Services, SAFO, the Chancellor's Office, and the Student Union. 

4. My gift didn't appear right away after I made it. When will it be included?

Your gift will be included within 24 hours after you made it. The system updates daily.  

5. How can I contact the Student Organization that I'm helping to fund?

The primary contact for each student organization is listed on each project's main page. There is also a comments section below the main project page where you can ask questions and students can respond. 

 


 

For Students: 

1. What are the steps to apply for Carolina Creates Crowd Funding?

Students should submit the Carolina Creates Crowd Funding Application by September 30, 2012 for an opportunity to participate in the next round of crowd funding, beginning on December 1, 2012. 

2. Who is eligible to apply for Carolina Creates Crowd Funding?

Any officially recognized UNC student organization with a specific initiative requiring funding less than $2,500. 

3. How does the Carolina Creates Online Board of Directors evaluate and select which crowd funding applicants will appear in the next round of funding?

The Carolina Creates Online Board of Directors evaluates and selects Crowd Funding applicants based on a demonstrated need for funding, diversity, breadth of impact on the Carolina community, creativity, an awareness of other funding opportunities, and a compelling marketing strategy. 

4. How long will my crowd funding initiative remain on the site?

Each Carolina Creates Crowd Funding initiative will remain on the site until the deadline designated by the student organization in its application.

5. How much funding may I request for my Carolina Creates Crowd Funding initiative?

The current limit for Carolina Creates Crowd Funding initiatives is $2,500.  

6. What happens after my project is fully funded?

Upon complete funding, the Carolina Creates Online team will transfer funds to the student organization within two weeks. 

7. What happens if my Carolina Creates Crowd Funding initiative is only partially funded by its deadline? 

All gifts given to organizations that do not reach their goal by the designated deadline are placed into the Carolina Creates Innovation Fund, which allocates grants to innovative UNC student initiatives.
